That the 2011 Hyundai Verna will hit Indian Hyundai dealerships later this year is news as stale as a certain Mr Suresh Kalmadi and gang getting stuck in the CWG scandal. Now, stale news isn’t why you religiously navigate the interweb to arrive at ICB every single day. do you? So, here you go, some fresher insider dope for you. The 2012 Hyundai Verna will feature a 1.6 liter diesel engine that will lead the class when it comes to power and torque output.
The current-gen Hyundai Verna, in diesel guise has always been a hairy car to handle, what with the sudden rush of torque that makes most folks in the Verna’s backseat want to throw up their last big meal. Now, more power means how much more power you may ask. We say, how about a 1582cc, four pot, Hyundai CRDI diesel engine that pumps out 126 Bhp at 4000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque from 1900 rpm.
That is a torque curve that will simply make the current torque bomb of the segment, the Volkswagen Vento seem run of the mill. So, you get a faster Hyundai Verna, especially if you plan to buy yourself one with the diesel engine. But whether the 2011 Hyundai Verna will be a boat when it comes to the twisties is something only a road test will tell although we hope Hyundai gets it’s act in the handling department up to scratch.
The 2011 Verna will also feature two petrol variants, the 1.4 Liter-105 Bhp and 1.6 Liter-120 Bhp VTVT engines that are expected to complete the portfolio. The 2011 Hyundai Verna also embodies Hyundai’s latest design philosophy which makes it look very sharp and may I add, very un-Hyundai like. Plus you get very good interiors and equipment level, especially if the Russian Verna, the Hyundai Solaris is anything to go by.
So, all in all the 2011 Hyundai Verna is one car that has enough potential to shake up the segment and take the fight right up to the All New Honda City, if, and I repeat, if priced right. The word on the street is that the top end variant of the 2011 Hyundai Verna Diesel will be slightly pricier than the Volkswagen Vento Diesel, which is quite frankly alright as long as Hyundai continues to deliver on the quality front like it always has been. April 2011 is when Hyundai India might pull the wraps off the 2011 Hyundai Verna. Watch this space.
